We marched, fund raised, made phone calls, ran ads, called our representatives, and prayed. The months leading up to the vote to label GMO food in California (proposition 37) saw a country come together in the name of common sense. This was not a heated political left vs right issue, a tense race issue, a do or die military issue, or any other issue leaders commonly use to get people focused on division. Proposition 37 represented an issue that was immune to the “divide and conquer” tactic containing opposition arguments so weak they failed to get much traction even among non-thinkers. Yet it did not pass.
In doing so, the ones who invested their time and energy marching, fund-raising, calling, and praying found themselves left with unanswered questions and perhaps a loss of hope. Does my voice/vote really count?
“Once you lose everything you’re free to do anything”
I ask those that voted, does which way the vote turned out change your feeling towards what is in your heart? Can a decision that comes out of a ballot box (voting machine) change what ideas and beliefs resonate with your soul? I believe the outcome of that vote was nothing more than a show of force, a flexing of big corporate money and force in an attempt to break our will. The last gasp of air from a flaying paradigm of corporate monopoly. For those of you not paying close attention, here’s a peak behind the curtain, the votes for proposition 37 are still not completely counted as I write this article. If that is the case, then why did the “TV” announce the winner rather quickly after the voting polls closed?
“I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this—who will count the votes, and how.” –Joseph Stalin
The solution lies, as it always has, in the individual power of each person to operate in the opposite consciousness of a system that seeks to control, use up their energy, exhaust their money, and steal their time. Don’t believe me? Take the case of bovine growth hormone that was being found in milk. The recombinant bovine somatotropin (rBST) was another creation of Monsanto. Once the FDA failed to take the rBST off the market, people simply refused to buy it. It is the hallmark case for people using their individual power to create a tipping point that effected a company’s profit. Wal-mart quickly was forced to sell only hormone free milk in order to keep their profit margin from falling any further.
The future is wide open and we shape it, not companies and government agencies that have continually let us down. Everyone that eats healthy in today’s society has already taken a major step away and withdrawn their consent from the status quo. They have taken the responsibility to straighten out their health in a nation that is chronically unhealthy. Take that successful experience as proof positive that you have power, unlimited if you choose. Don’t use it up fighting a system with a power monopoly. Rather, educate yourself and navigate around it using the path of least resistance. There is no need to meet it head on. Your energy and your money are your most important votes. No one is coming to your rescue. No one will save you. You are the person you have been waiting for to fix this.
