The modern-day anarchist or budding revolutionary finds themselves currently in a target rich environment. Opportunities to alter the direction of today’s trends, political agendas, and corporate plans are never more than a stones throw away (pun intended). The following excerpt from Dmirty Orlov’s writings concerning the practice of anarchy sums the idea, mindset, and current atmosphere of the anarchist perfectly”
“I hope that this makes it clear what the practice of anarchism looks like. First of all, someone must lead; not seek a leadership position, not attempt to take charge or seize control, but simply go right ahead and start doing what needs to be done without asking anyone’s permission. The goal is to create a viable alternative of which others can avail themselves freely. But in order for this to succeed, the target must be chosen well: a significant structural impediment that can be circumvented with finite effort. Working either entirely by yourself (in secret if need be) or with a few informal helpers, to craft a quick and dirty solution that nevertheless embodies the right set of concepts to scale up and take over is quite a feat, and few people are capable of it, but it is nevertheless something that happens quite a lot.
The best targets are ones that can be circumvented through individual or small group effort, with minimal start-up costs and where the alternative can spread virally. And the worst? Well, they generally require proposing a package of reforms, organizing politically, engaging in group planning activities, lobbying government and so forth. As Peter Kropotkin put it over a century ago, “It’s about time we learned that such is the fate of all revolutionary laws: they are enacted only once they have become the established practice.” So, start practicing!”
Now we know the philosophy behind the practice of anarchism, lets take a look a some successful implementations recently:
- Max Keiser’s “Crash JP Morgan Buy Silver” campaign is into it’s 3rd year and has cast the mega-bank into the role of villain while simultaneously making it popular to hold precious metals in this time of rapid dollar devaluation. This movement has called for every citizen to buy 1 ounce of silver effectively taking it off the market and shrinking the global supply. This attack directly affects the bottom line of JP Morgan due to their “naked short position” in which they are over leveraged in silver contracts by estimates of 100 to 1.
- Alex Jones has become well know for his numerous grass-roots campaigns against government over reach, abuse of power, and overt tyranny. With arguably one of the biggest audiences in radio, movements usually gain popularity quick and effects measured in real-time. Some of his successful ventures have been the TSA opt out and film, Stop Dictator Obama contest, mass call-ins to mainstream media shows pointing out their lies, local Texas protests, and others.
- A recent addition is the fresh anti-GMO movement called “Label it Yourself”. This campaign asks interested participants to do the work the FDA & EPA should have done years ago. By printing out free labels with statements reading “Warning May Contain GMOs” with an image of a skull and crossbones, the participant is encouraged to add it to any food product on the store shelf that fits the bill. From the LIY website:“The Label It Yourself (#LIY) is a decentralized, autonomous grassroots campaign born out of our broken food system. We have been asking corporations and our government to label food products so we can make educated decisions about what we eat. Our requests have been ignored and so we are taking matters into our own hands.
Using LIY’s resources, we encourage people to: autonomously label GMOs and empower others to do so, rescue words like “All Natural” and “Natural Flavors” from being hijacked, expose unfair labor practices. We have a right to know what is in our food and where it is coming from.”
There are many legal opportunities to affect positive change moving forward. I believe the best is yet to come. Will you be a part of the next movement?
